Effect of Piroxicam(Feldene^(®) Dispersible Tablet) in Dysmenorrhea

Abstract
|
|
|
Piroxicam(Feldenee Dispersible Tablet) is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug(NSAI ) which is a particularly potent reversible inhibitor of prostaglandin cyclooxygenase with a long half-life (approximately 45hours which allows single daily doses).
This study was performed mainly to evaluate the potential of Feldene to alleviate thsymptoms of primary dysmenorrhea.
The 30 cases studied were nonparous, and aged 18 to 30 yrs., three menstrual cycles were studied. Feldene was given to the patients in a doss of 40mg per day in the mornin: for the first two days. and then 20mg each morning of two subsequent days-the total dose being.120mgs.
To enable assessment of efficacy, cycles prior to Feldene administration were used as controls, and 90 piroxicam cycles(3menstrual cycles per patient) were studied for clinic-1 evaluation.
The results were as follows:
1. Feldene was an effective treatment for symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea, showin_ superiority over control cycles.

Marked in 38 cycles(42.2%) ´ Moderate in 46 cycles(51.5%)
3. There were no side effects except for gastro-intestianl discomfort, which was note i in 13% of patients.
